TANZANIA

Tanzania is home to one of the world’s most exciting wildlife spectacles: the Serengeti migration of over two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle, who follow the rains to nutritious grazing throughout the year. The Ngorongoro Crater is a veritable “Garden of Eden” – its 100 square miles teeming with a wide variety of wildlife species and the highest density of lions in Africa.  But northern Tanzania also provides exciting wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park, the Grumeti Reserves and Loliondo. And Mahale Mountain National Park is one of the few places in Africa where you may regularly find chimpanzees.

For the more intrepid traveler, you can explore Tanzania’s southern game reserves, the Selous and Ruaha. It has been said that venturing into these remote destinations takes the traveler back to an earlier time – a time when there were fewer visitors and a true sense of wilderness.

The green season – January through March – is the most popular time of year to visit northern Tanzania – when the wildebeest herds settle in the southern Serengeti and begin calving. Here is what your Serengeti migration safari might look like: World Safaris Tanzania Migration Safari
